Fifteen-Year Old Dancer in Idaho Wins “Design Your Dream” Competition with Winning Look to Be Featured in Revolution Dancewear’s 2015 Costume Collection

NILES, Ill.Revolution Dancewear, the leading industry designer and marketer of dancewear and footwear that sells direct to dance studios in the United States and Canada and directly to consumers and dance studios in the United Kingdom and Europe through its Dance Direct brand, is thrilled to announce that a 15-year-old dance enthusiast from Lewiston, Idaho, has won this year’s Design Your Dream competition. Hannah's Design

The annual contest offers individuals passionate about dance the opportunity to sketch their costume visions and allows the fans in the Revolution Dancewear Facebook community to vote for their favorites. The winning design is manufactured by Revolution Dancewear and will be featured in the company’s 2015 Costume Collection.

“My design inspiration came from the song ‘Radioactive’ by Imagine Dragons. I imagined it going with a cool jazz dance with a ‘kind of post apocalypse’ feel to it,” said Hannah. “This contest has been an amazing experience for me. The comments I've received from people show me that they believe in me and actually like what I create. It might sound cheesy, but it has also showed me that even a teenage girl from Idaho can do creative and amazing things.”

Out of 47 initial design submissions, the Revolution Dancewear costume design team selected 10 semi-finalists based on aesthetics, creativity and usability. Revolution Dancewear leveraged its Facebook page, which recently passed 20,000 fans, to engage the dance community in two rounds of voting.

In the first round, Facebook fans narrowed the field to three final designs. Hannah and the two other Design Your Dream finalists were treated to an all-expense paid trip to Chicago. Each of the three dancers collaborated with the Revolution Dancewear costume design team who brought the final sketches to life in garment form.

For the final round, Revolution Dancewear’s Facebook fans and visitors at its tradeshow booths at United Dance Merchants of America’s (UDMA) three Dance Resource Costume Shows voted and ultimately selected Hannah’s jazz/tap design.

“Our Design Your Dream contest every year gives dance enthusiasts the opportunity to create original costume designs that express their individuality and innovative points of view and then potentially see them brought to life and ultimately to the market,” said Robb Lippitt, CEO of Revolution Dancewear. “Hannah’s stunning costume reflects what today’s jazz and tap dancers are seeking—great fabrics, striking colors in an innovative design. Her costume will be great for a range of age groups and appeal to both dancers and the audience alike.”

In addition to her all-expense paid trip to Chicago and the esteem of being included in the Revolution Dancewear 2015 Costume Collection that will be available July 2014, Revolution Dancewear will outfit Hannah’s class at her dance school, Footnotes, in Lewiston, Idaho, in her winning design.
